Comment period begins for Badger

The U.S. Justice Department has opened a period for public comment concerning the proposed consent decree between Lake Michigan Carferry and the U.S. government. The decree calls for LMC’s ship, the SS Badger, to stop dumping coal ash slurry into Lake Michigan by the end of the 2014 sailing season. During the 30 day comment period, the public can voice their opinions about the decree.

Comments can be sent to the assistant attorney general, Environment and Natural Resources Division. The comments should refer to the United States v. Lake Michigan Trans-Lake Shortcut, Inc., D.J. Ref. No. 90-5-1-1-10771.
