Obituary: Martha Jansen, 86, of Scottville. 

Martha Theresa Jansen, 86, of Scottville, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021.  Martha was born on March 17, 1935 in Free Soil, the daughter of Bernard J. and Victoria M. (Rakoski) Edel.  On June 13, 1953 she married Alfonse “Al” Jansen and they celebrated 35 years together before Al preceded her in death on May 18, 1988.

Martha was also preceded in death by her parents; her sons Lewis and Carl Jansen; her brothers Henry “Bud” Rakoski, Michael, Ralph, Martin, Raymond, and Floyd Edel; and her sisters Delores Edel, Marie Struve, Dorothy Johnson, and Anna Arsnoe.

Martha and Al operated a dairy farm south of Scottville for over 30 years where they also raised their sons, Charles, Lewis, and Carl.  In her later years, Martha found great enjoyment working in her garden, growing a beautiful variety of flowers.

Martha will be greatly missed by her son, Charles; her sisters-in-law, Betty Edel and Darlaine Edel both of Scottville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Martha at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer with Rev. Daniel DePew as celebrant.  Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Weare Township of Oceana County.  Friends may greet her son Charles on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until time of mass at the Church.  Those who wish to remember Martha with a memorial donation are asked to please consider the Arthritis Foundation.
