SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central High School’s forensics team finished its 2020-2021 season in second place class C/D team in the state.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our team,” said Coach Tom Richert. “This has been quite an interesting year for the 2021 MCCHS Forensics team, as all tournaments, including regionals and state finals were all held virtual. While our team was smaller than normal, success was still gained for the Spartans.”
The team of 14 coached by Tom Richert and Scott Sturgill hosted all regular tournaments at the high school. Each student performed on their Chromebook, in their own classroom, without a live audience. Because of this format, Richert could divide the team and attend two tournaments on the same day, which happened on three separate weekends. The team then attended separate award ceremonies.
“The regional and state finals were full force and had all team members progress to state finals,” Richert said.
The team scored five team trophies, regional championship, and finished second place in class C/D and sixth place out of 21 teams B, C/D. Individually, the team scored 56 trophies for 14 individual events. Greenhills School took first place in class C/D.
