MCC Middle School student council offering to ‘Egg’ your house.

SCOTTVILLE – The Mason County Central Middle School Student Council is holding an Easter egg drop fundraising event called Egg My House, where people purchase eggs and then the students deliver those eggs to the purchaser’s chosen home, either scattering the eggs around the yard or placing them in a basket on the front steps.
“Our sixth grade math teacher Chandra Tacktor brought up this idea that she had seen on social media,” MCC MS student council advisor and eighth grade teacher, Brianna Wise said. “This is a popular fundraiser where she taught in Texas. We knew that it wasn’t being done here and decided it would be a great idea not only to raise money, but as something to help out parents in the area.”
To purchase, there is a Google form that works as an online order form. Payment can be made through PayPal or Venmo with three different options for purchase: 25, 50, or 100 eggs depending on family size. Prices are $20, $35, and $75 respectively. All of the eggs will be filled with name brand candies and easter trinkets. There is also an option to add a larger golden egg that will have bigger prizes inside for $5.
“We use our funds for projects and events throughout the year,” Wise said. “One is our Christmas assembly with games and presents. We’ve bought around 150 gifts each year, that we draw student names for. This year we are going to fund landscaping the area in front of our building. We normally raise the funds we need with concession stands at a few of our middle school sports events, but we weren’t able to do that this year with COVID rules. So, this is a way for us to help fund these projects that help our school.”
One of the unique aspects of the fundraiser is that it isn’t just for MCC students, the student council has opened it up to families across Mason County.
“Anyone in Mason County can order,” Wise said. “We are only limiting it because of volunteer availability for delivery. We don’t want to spread ourselves too thin since this is the first year. I hope to expand our reach in future years.”
Eggs must be purchased by March 31 to give the council enough time to fill and map out the different routes they will need to take for delivery.
“Eggs will be delivered the night before Easter so that the eggs will be there Easter morning when they wake up,” Wise said. “We are ‘scattering’ them rather than hiding the eggs. This will make it easier for kids and make sure that nobody misses any. Parents can choose whether they will be in the front or back yard on the order form. We also do have the option of having them delivered on the porch in a basket. Parents can then hide them themselves, but you still get the surprise of having the ‘Easter bunny’ delivery.”
Many of the students will be spending their last days before spring break finishing up the fundraiser, and then heading off for a week away from school.
“Students will be putting the eggs together before we leave for spring break on the 26,” Wise said. “We will be following all COVID precautions like wearing masks, regular sanitization of surfaces and hands, and wearing gloves as we work with any materials.”
Wise, along with the students and staff of the middle school are very excited so far about the turnout of participation and they are excited to offer this fundraiser in the years to come as well.
