Homeless man charged with armed robbery of downtown Ludington business.

LUDINGTON – Wesley Donald Hackert, 35, homeless, has been arraigned in 79th District Court on charges of armed robbery. Hackert was arrested Feb. 19 by Ludington Police Department following an incident at AGS Vape Shop, 117 E. Ludington Ave. Hackert was confronted by a store employee at the register after the employee witnessed him place two vape refills in his pocket and only claimed to have one. Once confronted, Hackert allegedly produced an unfolded pocket knife from his pocket and placed it on the counter.  He then put his hands on either side of the open knife and asked the clerk, “what are you gonna do if I run?”  The clerk backed away at that point. Hackert then allegedly grabbed the knife and left the store with the vape refill in pocket, unpaid for.  

He was found walking several minutes later and was arrested.  

Bond was set at $50,000 cash; Hackert remains lodged in the Mason County Jail. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for March 3 at 3:30 p.m. 

The felony is punishable by up to life imprisonment. 

Hackert was lodged in the Mason County Jail. A short time later, it was learned that he also allegedly stole two shot glasses from the other AGS store located at 111E. Ludington Ave.  

Hackert has an extensive criminal history. In January he was arraigned on charges from LPD of trespassing. In January 2020, he was arraigned on prowling charges. On Dec. 18, 2018, he was found guilty in 79th District Court for third degree retail fraud.
