Ludington man sent to prison for drug delivery, resisting arrest.

LUDINGTON — A 36-year-old Ludington man was sentenced to prison for convictions of delivery/manufacture of drugs and assaulting/resisting/obstructing police Tuesday, Jan. 26, in 51st Circuit Court.

Sean Russell Daugherty, of 208 E. Filer St., Ludington, was sentenced to concurrent terms of two to 14 years and 16 months to two years with credit for 87 days served in jail.

“You’re lucky the young woman was revived with Narcan,” said Judge Susan K. Sniegowski of the drug case.

“What stands out most in the presentence investigation report is the defendant’s history of drug use,” said Mason County Prosecutor Lauren Kreinbrink. “This was an incredibly serious case with incredibly serious circumstances.”

Kreinbrink said the drug was carfentinal, which is similar to heroin but stronger.

Sentencing guidelines in the cases were 14-43 months and two to 25 months, said Kreinbrink.

“I am deeply sorry for putting her and myself in that situation,” said Daugherty. “I have become aware that I am my own worst enemy.”

Daugherty has 14 prior misdemeanor convictions and two felonies, said Judge Sniegowski.

Daughtery’s attorney, Becky Lederer, said her client wanted to request Special Alternative Incarceration (SAI) or “boot camp” which is currently not happening because of COVID-19. “He would like to go if it’s available,” Lederer said. The judge noted that he is eligible for the program.

Daugherty appeared in court via Zoom video conferencing due to COVID-19.
