Account established to help fire victim, Jim Dittmer.
By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief. RIVERTON TOWNSHIP — An account has been set up to assist long-time Riverton Township resident Jim Dittmer, 85, whose home was damaged by a fire Sunday morning. St. Paul Methodist Church has established the account and funds may be sent there, 3212 W. Kinney Road, Ludington, MI 49431. Dittmer was returning from church Sunday morning when he discovered thick heavy black smoke coming from the back of his 118-year-old house at 3115 W. Kinney Road. He said he believed the fire started from an electric heater located in a porch in the back of the house. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire but there was a lot of smoke damage. Riverton Fire Department and Pere Marquette Township Fire Department were initially dispatched at 11:03 a.m. Also assisting were Ludington Fire Department, Scottville Fire Department, and Custer Fire Department.
