LUDINGTON — Ludington Area Arts Council has been awarded a grant from the Consumers Energy Foundation in the amount of $5,000 to support an energy efficiency lighting upgrade project at the Ludington Area Arts Center. This project would enhance both the energy efficiency of the facility as well as the visitor experience.
Current lighting throughout the 22,000 square foot South Harrison Street facility is provided primarily through a combination of natural light and fluorescent lighting, much of which is at least 35 years old and is in need of replacement. The funds granted would be specifically used toward the replacement of fluorescent fixtures and bulbs, acquisition of dimmable LED lamps, and general efficiency and aesthetic improvements.
The center’s facilities committee has worked to acquire funding for this venture. Both the Consumers Energy Business Solutions Outreach Lead and Superior Electric of Ludington, a program approved Trade Ally for the Small Business Program, are assisting in the project and offering guidance. Grants from funding sources such as Consumers Energy Foundation make it possible for the Arts Council to continue these facility upgrades and reduce overhead expenses
The recently installed gallery track lighting system, made possible through funds raised by the annual Online Photo Contest sponsored by Todd and Brad Reed Photography, was the first step in enhancing the lighting and making a more attractive exhibition space. The effectiveness of the gallery track lighting system can be seen by visiting the Arts Center’s current exhibit, a joint fundraiser with COVE entitled “Safe Haven”. Local artists and children painted and embellished dozens of birdhouses which are available through a silent auction until April 6. The Arts Center is located at 107 S. Harrison Street and is open Tuesday through Saturday, noon-5 p.m.
