Repeat offender faces prison time for drug charges.
LUDINGTON — Zachary Allan Shurlow, 26, of 618 1/2 E. Melendy St., was recently arraigned in 79th District Court on the felony charge of controlled substance delivery/manufacturing (delivery of fentanyl) and habitual offender, fourth offense. He was arrested Friday, May 1, 2020 by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Sheriff Kim Cole, the charge stems from a February 13, 2020 incident in the Mason County Jail, in which, it is alleged, Shurlow smuggled fentanyl in to the jail during booking on a probation violation charge that day.
Since then, Shurlow had been arrested on April 2, 2020 by Michigan State Police Hart Post and charged with tampering with electronic monitoring device and habitual offender.
On April 11, 2017, Shurlow pleaded guilty in 79th District Court for possession of marijuana and was sentenced to 70 days in jail with credit for 64 days served. In July, 2015, he was found guilty in 51st Circuit Court for tampering with an electronic monitoring device and second-offense habitual offender. He was sentenced to one and half years to three years in prison.
The charge of delivery of fentanyl is a felony offense and carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and/or $25,000 fine.
Bail was set at $5,000, 10% deposit. He remains lodged in the Mason County Jail, according to Cole.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for today, May 6, at 1:30 p.m.
