SCOTTVILLE — Coming off an extremely successful 2012 forensics season, it appears that Mason County Central High School is doing it again this year. Last year’s team finished fourth in the state of Michigan Class B. As-well-as having some very successful firsts; the team finished with nearly 300 points at the state tournament. The team gained 300 team points total at an individual tournament, and a 400 point day at another. MCC had a total of 20 students participate at state last year. They finished placing as the highest Public school in the state class B.
This year’s team consists of 26 students, are on track to beat last year’s numbers.
They competed in the following tournaments:
Leslie: third Place over all out of 16 teams, Fordfest : second place overall out of 20 teams., Birch Run: first place overall out of 24 teams, North Branch: second place overall out of 16 team, and Mason County Central: first Place out of 10 teams.
The team has earned 78 individual trophies, thus far and plans on expanding on this success in the weeks to come. MC has one of the largest teams in the state. Head coach for 23 years is, Tom Richert and he is He is assisted by Nate Petersen.
The remainder schedule will have the team in Alma, Midland, and Holland before heading to regional competition in April.
