Man pleads guilty to attempted third-degree CSC.

LUDINGTON – A 37-year-old Sherman Township man pleaded guilty in 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, Jan. 28, to attempted third-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC).
Timothy John Thorne, of 4020 N. Stephens Rd., faces one year in jail for the conviction. In exchange for his plea, one count of accosting children for immoral purposes was dismissed.
Thorne testified that on June 2 or 3 of 2018 that he attempted to have sex with a 14-year-old girl at a home on Danaher Street in the City of Ludington. He said he did not know the girl was a minor at the time.
He testified that he had been drinking at the time of the offense. “I was kind of in and out,” he said.
The maximum penalty for attempted third-degree CSC is five years in prison.
Thorne’s sentence will also include probation, and he will have to register as a sex offender, said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola.
Sentencing guidelines in the case are 5-23 months.
Sentencing is set for March 3 at 2 p.m.
