Ludington man facing prison skips sentencing.

HART – A 28-year-old Ludington man scheduled for sentencing in Oceana County’s 27th Circuit Court Monday morning, Jan. 27, did not show up, and Judge Robert D. Springstead issued a warrant for his arrest.

Joshua Mark Bassett-Lynch, of 5813 Iris Rd, faces serving 16 months in prison after pleading “no contest,” Dec. 2, to second-degree home invasion.

Bassett-Lynch was initially charged with first-degree home invasion which was dismissed in a plea agreement. A misdemeanor charge of assault and battery in Oceana County’s 78th District Court was also dismissed.

Oceana County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Chad DeRouin said the plea agreement calls for a 16-month cap on his prison term.

Bassett-Lynch was eligible for Special Alternative Incarceration (SAI) or boot camp at the time of his plea. The prosecution did not oppose boot camp.

“I’m the one who makes the final decision whether I oppose it or not,” said Judge Springstead In December. The Michigan Department of Corrections determines eligibility.

Bassett-Lynch testified that he invaded a home on Main Street in Hart, July 30. His attorney Timothy Hayes said his client was under the influence of drugs at the time of the offense.

The maximum penalty for second-degree home invasion is 15 years in prison.

Bassett-Lynch also recently failed to report to the Oceana County Probation and Parole Office for the preparation of a pre-sentence investigation report, according to probation staff.
