Riverton Township to hold Heritage Day celebration.

RIVERTON TOWNSHIP — Riverton Township will hold Heritage Day on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Riverton Town Hall from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will celebrate the remodeling of the town hall with a bench dedication in memory of Rita Johnson, who served many years on the township board of trustees.

A cemetery walk will take place at Center Riverton Cemetery, adjacent to the town hall, following the dedication. Some of the families that will be featured include Vandyke, Dittmer, Harley, Pleiness, Schwass, Martz, Matson, and Lundberg.

Historical exhibits of Riverton families, farms, churches, schools, and businesses including the ski hill that was on Morton Road will be inside the town hall.  Visual displays regarding the Riverton artist Manierre Dawson and the 100th year of Mason County Farm Bureau will be presented.

An antique fire engine truck from Western Michigan Old Engine Club will be on display as well as the showcasing of locally made quilts.  Refreshments will be provided. Any questions, contact Gary Dittmer at 231-845-6536 or Darlene Fuhrman at 231-843-8925.
