Preliminary exam in murder case rescheduled to May 22.

LUDINGTON — A preliminary exam that was scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, in 79th District Court in the murder case against Corey Ryan Beekman, 32, of Free Soil Township has been adjourned until May 22.

Beekman, of 10550 N. US 31, was arraigned on open murder charges, and three other counts, in connection to a shooting incident that took place, April 16, at his residence. The incident resulted in the death of William Buchanan, 32, of Mears, and the injury of a 32-year-old woman who has not been identified by law enforcement.

Beekman’s charges include homicide — open murder, assault with intent to murder, and two counts of weapons — felony firearm.

The woman and two children inside the home were transported by ambulance to Munson Health Manistee Hospital. The woman has since been released from the hospital, and the children were not physically harmed.

Beekman remains lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $750,000 cash/surety bond.

Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola said the preliminary exam was adjourned because “there are investigation reports still coming in.”
