Fire on U.S. 31

A reader submitted this photo of a structure fire on U.S. 31 near Dewey Road earlier tonight. Scottville, Custer and Fountain departments were called.

The fire was originally called in as a chimney fire. When Scottville firefighters arrived the entire north side was engulfed in flames. We have been told that the fire burned through the roof and damaged most of the second floor. Most of the first floor was saved, however.

U.S. 31 had been closed but is open again.
