LUDINGTON – A 29-year-old Ludington man pleaded guilty in 51st Circuit Court Monday, March 18, to felonious assault after assaulting a 25-year-old Ludington area man with a skateboard last December.
Bradley Daniel Gilman, of 710 E. Third St., was arrested on felony charges by the Ludington Police Department following the assault and lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $50,000/cash/surety bond. Gilman was in “some sort of relationship” with the female tenant of the residence in Pine Way Townhomes where the assault occurred, and the victim was in a previous relationship with her, according to Ludington Police Chief Mark Barnett.
Gilman “pushed his way through” the door and began assaulting the other man, Barnett said. He first assaulted the man with his fist, punching him approximately 30 times. He then used a skateboard to assault the victim by hitting him in the back of head with it and then striking him with it three times on his body, the chief said.
The victim, who suffered cuts and bruises, was treated at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.
In exchange for Gilman’s guilty plea, one count of first-degree home invasion was dismissed.
Gilman will be sentenced to time served, which is 75 days, of a one-year jail discretionary term, said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola. He will also be ordered to pay restitution to the tenant for damage to the apartment and medical expenses for the victim, Spaniola said.
The maximum penalty for felonious assault is four years in prison.
Sentencing guidelines in the case are 0-9 months.
Sentencing is set for April 23 at 2:30 p.m.
