Trooper Butterfield memorial service scheduled for Sunday.

FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP — A public memorial service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. for Michigan State Police Paul Butterfield, who was killed in the line of duty on Sept. 9, 2013 on North Custer Road. The memorial service will be held at the roadside memorial that stands in the place where Butterfield was murdered by 19-year-old Irons man. The service is organized by the Fountain Area Fire Department, which was the first emergency unit on the scene that evening. “We will never forget,” said Fountain Fire Lt. Shirley Chancellor.
