BALDWIN — Baldwin High School will host its fourth College Decision Day Celebration on
Tuesday, May 1. The event will honor the members of the senior class of 2018 making their decision on their future beyond high school.
“This celebration will continue to create a college-going culture within Baldwin High School, as well as within the Lake County community,” said Stiles X. Simmons, superintendent of Baldwin Community Schools. “We are extremely proud of our senior class for taking this next big step for their future.
“A lot of media attention goes to promising athletes when they select the college of their choice. We want every student to receive as much attention and have that same feeling of importance so that they too can feel special about this big day.”
The goal of College Decision Day is to celebrate high school seniors for their postsecondary educational plans and encourage younger students and families to prepare early for postsecondary education. The keynote speaker will be Dr. David Eisler the president of Ferris State University.
The Baldwin High School’s Decision Day Assembly 2018 will take place at 10 a.m. in the Max Brail Gymnasium. Students, parents, school administrators, teachers, staff, and community members are invited to join in the celebration.
The event is organized by the Baldwin Promise Authority, which governs the Baldwin College Access Center and Promise, which works to create a college-going culture through awareness and knowledge for students in the Baldwin Community School district. In addition to initiatives focusing on creating a college-going culture, students are promised to receive financial support of up to $5,000 for four years to pursue higher education after graduating from the school district. The goal of the organization is to promote the development of the community by increasing college access while reducing educational, financial and social barriers to post-secondary success. www.baldwinpromise.org
