Hamlin Township resident Sgt. (ret) Eric Lund is currently recovering after receiving a double arm replacement surgery at John Hopkins University in Baltimore Tuesday. While serving in the Michigan Army National Guard in Afghanistan, Lund was injured on May 20, 2012, losing both of his arms above the elbow. He has gone through multiple surgeries since that time. In 2015, the community rallied and finished completion of a home for Eric that was adaptable to his disabilities.

On Monday, at 9:30 a.m., Eric received the call that there was a match for him and that he needed be on an afternoon flight from Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, to Baltimore, Eric’s aunt, Melissa Boggs said.

The surgery began just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and lasted for 14 hours.

Melissa said, as of 10 a.m. today, Eric is “awake and doing very well. The next 48 hours are critical – please continue to pray.”
