Ludington woman faces up to life in prison for forgery.

HART — A 25-year-old Ludington woman with a lengthy criminal history faces up to life in prison for felony charges of forgery, because she is a habitual offender.

Tresa Brianna Anderson, of 6225 S. Brye Rd., Riverton Township, appeared in Oceana County’s 27th Circuit Court Monday, Oct. 23, for a pretrial hearing with her attorney, Terry Shaw.

Because Anderson is habitual offender, her maximum prison term is elevated to life in prison, said Judge Robert D. Springstead.
She is currently charged with two counts of forgery and fourth-offense habitual offender following her arrest last month by the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.

Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon offered a plea agreement that would cap her minimum prison term at one year and one day.

Anderson, who is currently on parole, has served previous prison terms for convictions of organized retail crime act violation in Muskegon County; uttering and publishing in Oceana County; and two forgery convictions in Mason County, according to the Offender Tracking Information System (OTIS).

She was on parole at the time of the recent alleged offense.

Anderson requested more time to discuss the case with her attorney to determine whether she wants to accept the plea deal or proceed to trial. Springstead allowed her more time and scheduled her to appear in court again, Dec. 4.

The judge reminded her that because she is on parole, her jail time won’t be credited and is considered “dead time.”

Sentencing guidelines in the case are 10-46 months.
