SCOTTVILLE — The Scottville Youth Football program has found a new home at a familiar place that is dear to many local athletes. The program recently landed at the old football field at MacPhail Field. Program Coordinator Tom McLouth said the program had been using some of Mason County Central’s athletic fields but was experiencing scheduling conflicts. “One of our coaches had the idea to contact the city of Scottville,” McLouth said. “We got in touch with City Manager Amy Williams and she helped us through the process of getting approved.”
Williams said the proposal was quickly approved by the city’s parks and recreation committee and the the city commission.
“We were happy to see a group interested in using the field and we welcome them here,” Williams said. Mason County Central stopped using the field in 1998 when it opened Spartan Community Field located near the middle school. For several years the field had been used by the AYSO soccer program. However, that program is no longer active in Scottville. “It’s great to see them take such an interest in improving the field.”
McLouth said the program has over 70 kids beginning at 8-years-old. He said the maximum age are kids who are in sixth grade; seventh graders participate in the schools’ middle school football programs. Though the program is called the Scottville Youth Football Program, it is open to anyone, McLouth said. “We have kids from all area schools,” McLouth said.
