HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fire that occurred at 3333 N. Lincoln Road early this morning, resulting in a 46-year-old caucasian male being severely burned. Hamlin Township Fire Department and Pere Marquette Township Fire Department were called to the property about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, for a building fire. The fire destroyed an approximate 300-square-feet pole barn.
At 5:30 p.m. detectives and deputies from the sheriff’s office were still on scene. Det. Sgt. Tom Posma confirmed that they were executing a search warrant and he also confirmed the age, race and gender of the victim. He also confirmed that the man had been severely burned. He said at this point the incident is suspicious but would not confirm if there was any criminal intent. He said other details would likely not be available until Monday.
Ludington Fire Department was also dispatched to assist with water supply at the fire Saturday morning. Though the fire was extinguished within an hour, Hamlin Fire Department did not clear the scene until 6:30 a.m. Posma said he had been on scene since about 6 a.m.
