Young Eagles program to offer free youth flights July 8.
PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Pilots Association is again offering free airplane rides to local youth ages 8 though 17 on Saturday, July 8 at the Mason County Airport. Rides are 10 to 15 minutes long and go over the Lake Michigan shoreline.
More than 30 volunteers will be working to provide rides, the pilots using their own planes. Riders will be taken on a first come first serve basis. Over two million children have flown with the Young Eagle’s program nationally, and over 2,000 have flown with local EAA Chapter 772.
Participants will receive a log book which the pilot will sign as well as a certificate. Participants who have flown before are encouraged to bring their old log book with them to add the new flight to it.
Rides will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., but participants are asked to arrive before 1 p.m. to assure a flight.
In case of rain the event will be postponed until Sunday, July 9.
