LUDINGTON — The 20-year-old man who fell 30 feet at the Ludington Water Treatment Plant Wednesday afternoon has died from his injuries, according to a press release from Ludington City Manager John Shay.

Shay stated that the man, who was an employee of one of the contractors working on the plant’s repairs and upgrades, fell through a skylight onto an empty concrete clarifier, a distance of about 30 feet. The man was initially transported by Life EMS ambulance to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital and then airlifted by AeroMed to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids where he was pronounced dead.

Shay said the construction project’s general contract, Davis Construction of Lansing, has informed the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration about the incident, which will be sending investigators to the plant Thursday morning.

The plant is located on North Lakeshore Drive, just north of Stearns Park.

Ludington Police Department, Ludington Fire Department, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, and Life EMS responded to the scene.
