LUDINGTON — Fifth Ward City Councilor Nick Tykoski is resigning his position, effective June 1.
“I have wrestled with this decision quite extensively,” Tykoski said in his letter of resignation. “At this time, my business growth demands that I commit more time to my company which will require extensive periods of time out of the area.” Tykoski is owner of Safety Decals, which creates a variety of direct marketing products and also creates decals. Some of the business’ clients are large corporations.
“I believe this will greatly affect my ability to continue to adequately serve the residents of the Fifth Ward and be sure that their voices are represented at all council decisions. I have enjoyed my time as Fifth Ward Councilor and hope to have the opportunity to serve again in the future.”
Tykoski is also a member of the Ludington Fire Department, a position he said he plans to continue.
The city charter requires that the position be filled within 30 days by appointment by majority vote of the city council with the mayor voting in case of a tie. No vacancy can be filled if the resignation occurs within 60 days preceding a city election. Elected officers appointed shall serve until the next regular election, at which time an election shall be held to fill the remaining period of the term of office.
