HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — Kevin and Marla Rader left Mason County 28 years ago and moved to the Grand Rapids area. The two were high school sweethearts, both graduating in 1988; Marla from Ludington High School and Kevin from Mason County Central High School. Following their respective careers in the city, they decided it was time to move back home to be closer to family and friends, and to start a new career.

Last fall, they bought the former Jay’s Country Store, located at the corner of M-116 and Lakeshore Drive. They changed the name to the Y Country Store and spent several months cleaning the place up and stocking the shelves with new inventory. The store officially opened today.

“We’re looking forward to meeting all the local people in the area and of course the tourists in the summertime,” Kevin said. “We are also looking forward to being back in the community.”

Some of the new features of the store will include a fountain pop machine, breakfast sandwiches, and locally produced items. The store will also be selling Department of Natural Resources licenses and lottery, within a few weeks.

Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Summer hours may be extended.
