SCOTTVILLE – The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a former Mason County Central athletic coach. Sheriff Jeff Fiers said the investigation has been underway for the past couple of months and that the department expects to turn the information over to the prosecutor in the next couple of weeks. Fiers would not comment any further on the case.
MCC Superintendent Jeff Mount would not give the name of the coach but did indicate it is a male coach who has resigned. Mount did confirm that the person only held a coaching position and was not a member of the teaching or support staff.
“At this time I can only confirm that an investigation is being conducted by Mason County sheriff detectives regarding a former MCC Coach,” Mount said.
“I am not able to share any further information at this time due to the investigation in progress. The coach in question is a former coach, due to the fact that I have received a resignation from said coach.
“Since being made aware of the situation by the investigators we have cooperated fully with the detective investigating the allegations and are conducting an internal investigation here in support of the on-going investigation.
“In doing so, we have not discovered any evidence at Mason County Central Schools that would confirm nor deny the allegations. In the meantime, we will see how the investigation from the Sheriff’s office plays out and continue to support them in any way possible.”
Neither Fiers nor Mount would indicate the nature of the investigation.
