Robert James Allard, Sr., 90, of Ludington passed away on Saturday November 5, 2016 at Tendercare of Ludington.

He was born on October 23, 1926 in Hattiesburg, Miss., son of the late Daniel and Alma (Hansen) Allard.  Robert was drafted into the U.S. Navy on March 14, 1945, serving until his honorable discharge on July 25, 1946.  Robert married the love of his life, Vernita J. Fox on November 4, 1950 in Ludington.  She preceded him in death on February 12, 2014.

As a teen, Robert was an alter boy, Boy Scout, Sea Scout and worked at the Ludington Daily News before and after school.  Robert graduated from St. Simon High School and was an active member of the St. Simon Catholic Church until his move to Tendercare in 2015.  Robert worked for Fisher Body in Flint, Autopulse and Jackson Vibrator, Inc., retiring from Pandrol Jackson in 1989.

Robert was a vice president of the United Way Fund, chairman of the UAW Cap Council, past president of the Ludington Eagles and a member of the Eagles Drill Degree Team.  He was also a member of the Ludington American Legion Post #76 and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

Robert was a wonderful father and is survived by his five children: Christine M. Street of Portage, Pamela J. (Kevin Riley) Allard of Grand Rapids, Elizabeth A. (Kim) Mueller of Ludington, Robert J. (Liz Bransdorfer) Allard, Jr. of Ludington, and Steven D. (Michelle Ricklefs) Allard of Spring Lake;  grandchildren: Mick Kyle, Benjamin (Vanessa) Street, Joshua (Samantha Phillips) Street, Steven (Kelsey) Allard, Ian Allard and Inez Allard; great-grandchildren: Sterling Kyle, Kashess Stone, Ezra Stone, Zoey Allard and Grayson Allard; sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Boone of Muskegon; brothers: William (Alice) Allard and Paul (Sandy) Allard both of Florida; his extended family, Janice (Fox) Soper, Willa Jean (Fox) Dust, Wayne (Virginia) Fox and Kay (Fox) Fetters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vernita; son-in-law, Thomas Street; granddaughter, Pearl Allard; sister and brother-in-law, Arlys and Dick Derrick; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Bayonne Allard and Daniel and Jenny Allard; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Boone.

The funeral mass of Christian Burial with military honors by the Ludington American Legion Post #76 will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday November 9, 2016 at St. Simon Catholic Church with Father Wayne Wheeler Celebrant.  The family will receive friends for visitation at the church from 10:00AM until time of funeral mass.  Cremation will follow and final interment will take place at Pere Marquette Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
