SUMMIT TOWNSHIP — State Representative Ray Franz will be holding an State Energy Issues Town Hall on Monday, September 17th at Summit Township Hall located at 4560 W. Anthony Rd. Ludington. The meeting is open to the public and will start at 6:30 p.m.
Rep. Franz will be joined by the Chair of the House Standing Committee on Energy and Technology, Rep. Ken Horn.
One of the topics sure to be discussed Proposal 3, commonly known as 25 By 25 and would amend the Michigan Constitution to require local utilities to produce 25 percent of the state’s electic needs from renewable sources by 2025. Some estimate the costs of Proposal 3 could reach at least $12 billion dollars. Proposal 3’s growing opposition includes: The Michigan Farm Bureau, The Michigan Milk Producers Association and the Michigan Sugar Company as well as Michigan’s Electric Cooperatives. Groups in favor of this proposition include: The Sierra Club, Conservancies and the American Wind Energy Association.
