LUDINGTON — Three services will be held locally during National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 5. The first service will be held in front of Ludington High School at 7:30 a.m. Students will lead a prayer service there. At 12:20 p.m., a service will be held on the north steps of the Mason County Courthouse and then a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 1212 N. Monona Dr.

“This year is election year, so the need for prayer is greater than ever,” said Pastor Henrik Lidman of Prayer & Praise Assembly of God and one of the event organizers. “Many people are expressing fear for the future and are deeply concerned for the direction our country is taking.

“The best thing we can do is to pray, the Bible have many examples of how prayer and fasting was the key for turning hearts back to God. This day we are praying that this will happen again. The National Day of Prayer is a always on the first Thursday in May, it is declared by the President and prayer meetings like ours are happening all across our nation.”

The National Day of Prayer task force, nationaldayofprayer.org, gives a theme for every year. This year the theme comes from Isiaiah 58: “lift your voice like a trumpet.”

“It is always an honor to have our noon event at the courthouse,” Pastor Lidman said. “So many important decisions are made in that building. As the churches gather to pray it is also a way for us to show our support for those who work there. It is in that building that a young couple apply for a marriage license, at the same time as a divorce case is made final in the courtroom. In the basement the custody battles are resolved and children are placed in homes. We feel a deep burden for our county but instead of cursing darkness we have decided to invite light. we have decided to pray, to ask that heaven would touch earth or as Jesus said ‘your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’”
