FILER TOWNSHIP (Manistee County) — The man who died in a semi-truck/SUV crash on US 31 Monday morning died of “multiple blunt impact injuries with other significant medical conditions contributing to his death,” according to Manistee County Undersheriff John O’Hagan. George Kuhr, 79, of Free Soil was declared dead on the scene following the crash that occurred just south of Fox Farm Road, less than a mile north of the Manistee-Mason counties line. An autopsy was performed the following day in Grand Rapids.

Kuhr was driving his Chevrolet Equinox north on US 31 when his vehicle apparently crossed into the southbound lane and crashed head-on with a semi truck driven by a Hesperia man, who was uninjured. The point of impact occurred about 50 feet from the Fox Farm Road intersection.
