Larceny, drug possession lead to jail.

LUDINGTON — A 58-year-old Ludington man was sentenced Tuesday, March 22, in 51st Circuit Court to serve six months up front of a one-year discretionary jail term, followed by six months on Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring (SCRAM) for convictions of larceny in a building and possession with intent to deliver diazepam.

Steven Craig Holtrust, of 707 W. Ludington Ave., received credit for 20 days served in jail.

Mason County Prosecutor noted Holtrust’s previous numerous convictions, most of which are alcohol-related, totaling 18 misdemeanors and two felonies.

“I am hopeful he will be able to maintain a long period of sobriety,” Spaniola said. “When he’s sober, he’s talented,” said Spaniola, recalling a time Holtrust repaired bookcases in his office.

Holtrust’s attorney, Al Swanson, Jr., said his client is looking at “facing a much steeper and in-depth sanctions if he doesn’t refrain from alcohol and drugs.”

“Mr. Holtrust, your addiction to alcohol is causing a myriad of problems in your life,” said Judge Susan K. Sniegowski.

Holtrust was also ordered to serve two years probation.
