Bomb threat at MCE.

CUSTER — Law enforcement and other emergency personnel were dispatched to Mason County Eastern Schools about 2:50 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, for a report of a bomb threat that was emailed to the school. The school, which would have been dismissed within 30 minutes, was quickly evacuated, with students moved to St. Mary’s Church and Johnny’s of Custer. This is the second bomb threat of a local school within two weeks. The previous threat was at Covenant Christian School.

Law enforcement personnel from Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Scottville Police Department, Ludington Police Department, Michigan State Police and Michigan Department of Natural Resources are on scene as are personnel from Custer Fire Department and Life EMS.

Buses from Ludington Area School District were used to transport students because the MCE buses were parked in close proximity one of the school buildings during the time of the threat, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. The MCE bus drivers were transported by a bus, which was not located near the school at the time of the threat, into Ludington. A MSP bomb squad has been called in from the Rockford post. MSP Hart Post is leading the investigation.
