SCOTTVILLE — City Commissioner and Mayor Pro-Tem David Johnson has submitted his letter of resignation from the commission, citing a conflict with his personal life. Johnson has been a member of the commission for over the past five years.
“I grew up in Scottville and managed to move back after 15 years of working in other areas of the state,” Johnson said. “It is a great city and a great place to live.”
In his resignation letter, Johnson said prior to resigning he spoke with resident and business owner Sally Cole, who had expressed an interest in the commission during the previous vacancy. He said Cole said she would be interested in being appointed. City Manager Amy Williams said the commission is required to inform the public of the vacancy and must fill the position within 30 days or hold a special election.
Johnson also recommended that the commission consider appointing Commissioner Marcy Spencer as mayor pro-tem.
The commission must approve the letter of resignation and is expected to do so at its regular meeting on Monday, Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
