LUDINGTON — A.M. Galleries and its predecessor, The Artists Market, have been institutions here for over 40 years. Andrew and Michelle Thomas purchased the business over 10 years ago, moved its location and put more emphasis on the fine art component, while also continuing framing services. Today, Andrew announced the sale of the business to Jason and Michelle Miney of Ludington, effective Nov. 1, 2015.
Jason is best known for his fine art, commercial photography. His work has been featured internationally. His clients include global corporations and the U.S. government, among many others. His fine art work is on display at two Grand Rapids galleries.
“Michelle and I both grew up here and wanted to come back to the area,” Jason said. “We’ve lived in Grand Rapids for several years but Ludington is home. I still plan on maintaining a presence in Grand Rapids but I am excited to be able to feature my work here in Ludington, along with work of many other great artists as well.”
AM Galleries is located at 310 W. Ludington Ave., however Jason indicated he may be moving the location in the near future.
“I am excited to be able to work with Andrew. He brings a vast amount of knowledge in the art world and he has agreed to remain a fixture in the business.”
However, Andrew’s primary focus will be to grow is increasingly popular brewery, Starving Artists Brewing of Amber Township. The brewery launched earlier in the summer with tremendous success. Thomas was just rewarded a $50,000 grant by the Momentum Business Plan Competition.
“I love the gallery, it’s my baby,” Andrew said. “I began my career working at Artists Market and there is a special place in my heart for it. But, my passion is making beer and its time to give someone else the chance to keep the art store going.”
Jason said much of the business will remain the same. The framing business will continue and the gallery will feature works from various artists, including his own work.
“This is a great opportunity to be here in Ludington. We are looking forward to it,” he said.
