Volunteers needed for college’s Muddy Fox Trot 5K.

July 7, 2015

VICTORY TOWNSHIP – Organizers of the Muddy Fox Trot, a family-friendly mud run with a boot camp style obstacle course, are seeking about 40 volunteers to work on July 11, as monitors along the 5K course which will be located on the West Shore Community College campus.

The mud run will benefit the WSCC Foundation student scholarship fund.

Two volunteer shifts will be available from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 1 – 4 p.m. Course flights begin at 10 a.m.

Volunteers will be assigned to the registration table, obstacle stations, road crossings, or will provide food service assistance. Volunteers will also be instructors and cheerleaders to racers, perform maintenance on obstacles as needed, and help manage overall course safety.

Volunteers are expected to check-in at the volunteer tent 20 minutes before a shift begins for a briefing and then be transported to their assigned area.

Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and a complimentary lunch. A food concession will also be available to spectators.

The course will include dredging through muddy trenches, scaling muddy hillsides, slogging through shallow water crossings, and climbing over bales of hay.

“This race will be a great way for the community to do something fun and challenging while raising money for a very worthy cause,” says Mike Moore, race organizer and the college’s director of recreation services. “Our focus is creating a great event while raising money to support scholarships for many of the college’s deserving students. We couldn’t have an event like this without many volunteers.”

Anyone interested in serving as a volunteer is asked to call Julie Page-Smith at 231-843-5949.

Registration details for the Muddy Fox Trot can be found at www.westshore.edu or find the event on Facebook.
