Scottville man will serve prison term for CSC with minor

LUDINGTON — A 20-year-old man will likely spend the next 10 to 30 years in prison for sexually violating a 9-year-old boy.

William Joseph Handshoe, 20, of West First St., Scottville, appeared in 51st Circuit Court this afternoon. He was arrested June 6 by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office on four felony counts of criminal sexual conduct, first degree, with a minor under 13-years-old by a perpetrator over 17-years-old.  The incidents occurred over a two year period at a residence in Scottville and also in public locations in Ludington.

Criminal sexual conduct first degree involves penetration. The charge is a life sentence with a mandatory minimum of 25 years in service.

Handshoe accepted a plea agreement to drop the first four charges and add two additional charges of CSC first degree with a minor under 13, but taking off the perpetrator over 17-years-old charge. The first charge includes a 10-30 year prison sentence while the second sentence includes a maximum 15 year sentence (concurrent) along with mandatory lifetime monitoring. Handshoe will also be listed on the sex offender list.

The two additional charges involved oral sex with the minor victim and occurred at a residence in Scottville and near the Washington Avenue bridge in Ludington.

Handshoe will be sentenced on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 1:30 p.m.
