14-year-old dies in Sunday accident

PERE MARQUETTE TWP. — A 14-year-old Lansing boy was killed as a result of a traffic crash Sunday morning on U.S. 10 east of Pere Marqette highway.

A vehicle had stopped in the center lane of U.S. 10 and Darius Vanbrook exited the vehicle and began to cross the eastbound lanes where he was struck by a pick-up truck driven by Michael Hays, 33, Fountain.

Hays was treated and released from Memorial Medical Center.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Assisting the sheriff’s office on the scene were Michigan State Police, Pere Marquette Fire Dept., Victim’s Assistance Unit and Life EMS.
