D’Ann Rohrer, MCP’s new education writer

D’Ann Rohrer

D’Ann Rohrer has joined the MCP team as our new education writer. D’Ann brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, having worked for several years in the education field. She has a master’s degree in education from Ferris State University along with a bachelor’s degree in physical education, with a minor in elementary distributed, from Grand Valley State University. She also has an associate’s degree in child development from Ferris State University.

A native of Fremont, D’Ann and her husband, along with their four children, live in Summit Township near Bass Lake. She worked 10 years as a fifth grade teacher at Shelby Public Schools. She also has worked as a consultant for what is now the West Shore Educational Service District. Many local swimmers may recognize D’Ann because she was the director of Donald C. Baldwin Community School.

D’Ann’s oldest children, twin boys, are seniors this year at Ludington High School. She home schools her two elementary-aged children.

“I am looking forward to writing about education, a topic that is very dear to my heart,” she says.

While D’Ann may occasionally be visiting area school board meetings, her emphasis will be more on educational topics.

“Having someone with D’Ann’s skills on board is really going to bring a whole new level of educational reporting to Mason County,” Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief says. “We want to cover topics that are important to parents, children and taxpayers. There are few topics as important as education.”
