3 arrested during pot bust

The State, Sheriff’s, Chief’s Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT) and the United States Forest Service concluded a marijuana investigation in Mason County last which resulted in the arrest of three people.

In a press release, the SSCENT team reported that after a year-long investigation three Newaygo County men were allegedly harvesting marijuana plants on federal land in Eden Township. Marijuana plants were also seized on private property in Sherman and Free Soil townships, as well as Newaygo County; the total number of plants seized was 420.

Quinton Mosley Sr, 56, Quinton Mosley Jr, 33 and Daniel Whelpley, 34, all from Hesperia, were charged with manufacturing marijuana and conspiracy to manufacture marijuana and were arraigned in the 79th District Court in Ludington. They are being lodged in Mason County Jail pending preliminary examinations in court. 

SSCENT and the U.S Forest Service were assisted by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Central Michigan Enforcement Team.

SSCENT is a multi-jurisdictional drug task force comprised of the following agencies: Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, Manistee Police Department, Ludington Police Department, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, and the Michigan State Police.
