SCOTTVILLE — At least two people were transported to the hospital as the result of a fire at Glendale Apartments, 400 W. Third St. Firefighters were initially dispatched about 9:47 p.m. and had the fire contained within an hour. The fire occurred in Building 401 and severely damaged at least one apartment with adjoining apartments receiving heavy smoke damage. Scottville Fire Department Assistant Chief Jeff Schindler said two of the apartment’s residents received injuries, one with burns and another with smoke inhalation. Dispatch information stated at least four people required medical attention.
Schindler said he did not know what started the fire but it ignited in the front area of the apartment. Multiple residents were evacuated and are receiving assistance from American Red Cross.
Fire departments dispatched to the fire included Scottville Fire Department, Custer Fire Department, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, and Ludington Fire Department. Also assisting on scene were Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Ludington Police Department, Life EMS, Scottville Department of Public Works, and Fountain Area Fire Department Auxiliary.
