Obituary: Goldie McIntosh, 90, of Custer

April 1, 2025

Goldie Marie McIntosh, 90, lifelong resident of Custer, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025.  Goldie was born on October 24, 1934 in Custer, the daughter of Kenneth W. and Dimple M. (Pahl) Rathburn and graduated from Custer High School with the class of 1954.  On November 10, 1954 she married James S. McIntosh and they celebrated 46 years together before Jim preceded her in death in 2001.

Goldie was well known around the Custer community as the “Avon Lady” for over 25 years.  She relished the visits and conversations with her customers as many were the friends she had known all her life.  Goldie was a roller-skating fixture at Johnny’s Skate Center well into her 70s and enjoyed polka dancing at the Custer VFW into her 80s.  Her greatest joy was found raising her family with her beloved Jim by her side.

Along with her husband Jim, Goldie was also preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Dimple; her brothers Fred, Paul, and Harold Rathburn; and her sisters Donna Rathburn and Irma Walker Hall.

Goldie will be lovingly remembered by her sons James of Walhalla and Terry of Fountain; her grandchildren Melissa McIntosh, Anthony McIntosh, Rochelle Jochman, and Terra McIntosh; her great-grandchildren Colten and Sophie Jochman, and Flora McIntosh; her sister Rita Rathburn of Irons; her brother Larry (Karen) Rathburn of Scottville; her sister-in-law Kathy Rathburn of Livonia; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

For anyone wishing to remember her with a memorial donation – Goldie’s wishes were for you to take your family out for a nice dinner and enjoy yourselves!

Goldie will be laid to rest next to her husband Jim at Riverside Cemetery in Custer Township later this spring.
