Ernest Cameron

Ernest Marshall Cameron, 69, of Ludington, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025.

On November 21, 1955, Ernest was born in Elmhurst Ill., the son of Melvin L. Cameron and Ernestine M. Nelson. He graduated from Ludington High School in 1973.

Ernie served bravely in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany and Fort Hood. After his time in the military, he worked for Whitehall Industries, then went to Dow Chemical, where he worked his way up and eventually became a master electrician. Ernie always wanted to be self employed and become a business owner. In 2003 he did just that with Cameron Wood Products and retired from Dow a few years later.

His loved ones would describe Ernie as stubborn, a hard-working man with an incredible sense of humor, and as being a loving grandpa. He loved deer hunting, salmon fishing, working on cars, and spending the winters in the Dominican Republic.

Ernie is survived by his sons, Rob Cameron (Sarah Chaney) and her children, Josephine and Carter, and Blake Cameron (Melody Norman); grandchildren, Kye Cameron, Brendan Cameron, and Rebecca Campbell; half-brother, Wayne Wright; his sidekick and beloved dog, Bert; numerous friends down on the Island; and his nieces and nephews.

Ernie was preceded in death by his mom, Ernestine Wright; dad, Melvin Cameron; stepdad, Dwayne Wright; sister, Cindy Holmes; brother, Melvin (Corky) Cameron; and grandparents.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 4 p.m. at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington, with a visitation beginning at 2 p.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington, www.OakGroveLudington.com.
