Local Special Olympics basketball teams will advance to state tournaments

SHEPARD — Area 24 Special Olympics basketball recently attended the State District Tournament earlier this month in Shepard.  The three area teams Be Brave, Chaos and Tornados all competed in respective divisions each playing two games.

The Be Brave team competed in Division 7 winning its first game in a tight match 30-28.  The team played a tough and competitive game against the Area 5 Scrappy Dawgs but came up short losing by a final score of 30-23.  Be Brave finished second in the division earning silver medals.

The Chaos team competed in Division 6 winning its first game 42 – 34 which put the team into the finals where it triumphed and beat the Area 28 Cougars 30-24.  By winning the district the Chaos team will now play in the state tournament in Grand Rapids on Saturday, March 22 at the Special Olympics Unified Sport and Inclusion Center.

The Tornados team competed in Division 4 winning its first game 32-12 which put the team into the finals where it also prevailed and beat the Area 9 Dragons 36-22.  By winning the district the team will play in the state tournament in Grand Rapids on Saturday, March 22 at Calvin College.
