Margaret Walunas
Mary “Marge” Margaret (Thompson) Walunas, 102, went home to her Lord on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
Marge was born on June 22, 1922, the daughter of the late John and Beatrice Thompson. She was a 1940 graduate of Custer High School. On November 30, 1940, she married Edward Joseph Walunas. Marge worked at Strait Steel and Wire as a welder, retiring after 30 years. She was a devoted member of St. Simon Catholic Church and St Mary’s Catholic Church. Marge was strong in her faith, and helped at the St. Simon Bargain Center, and was a member of the Catholic Daughters.
Marge was a kind and generous woman to family, friends, and neighbors alike. She was known to be spirited and confidently independent. She enjoyed cooking and always wanted to feed any visitors to her home. She was well known for her Lithuanian dish “Kugel” and her pies…especially blueberry! She enjoyed the time she had with her grandchildren, teaching them how to make Kugel. There were always cookies and sweet treats to be eaten as well. She loved plants, gardening, and flowers as there were SO many inside and outside of her home. She also enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling, walking, and sewing.
These last few years, she has been taken care of by the wonderful, caring nurses and staff at Oceana Medical Care Facility. She will be missed by the staff and all the people whose life she has touched.
Marge is survived by her sons, Richard (Cindy) Walunas, and James (Barbara) Walunas; grandchildren, Julie (Paul) Meeker, Thomas (Sara) Walunas, Theresa (John Brzezniak) Walunas, Joseph (Melissa) Walunas, Heather (Larry) LaBond, Brent (Stephanie) Walunas, Shannon (Steve) Drzick; great grandchildren, Rebecah (Zach) LaPrad, Nolan (Ashley) Meeker, Trent Meeker, JT Walunas, Ben Walunas, Zach Walunas, Andrew Brzezniak, Connor Walunas, Madeline Walunas, Hailey LaBond, Meghan LaBond, Max Walunas, and Piper Walunas; great-great grandchildren, Camden and Jackson LaPrad; and many nieces and nephews.
