WSCC to present Humankind program at Scottville library

February 25, 2025

WSCC News is a presentation of West Shore Community College in partnership with Mason County Press.

SCOTTVILLE — West Shore Community College’s Humankind series will host the event “Better together! How intergenerational programs can increase social connectedness and combat loneliness” on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Mason County District Library Scottville branch at 5:30 p.m. The event is free to attend and open to everyone.

The educational talk will be led by Barbra Link and Jane Lozen from iMPROve Health, a Michigan-based independent, nonprofit organization that aims to improve community health. The event aims to help people understand how relationships across different generations can be beneficial for everyone’s health. It is part of this year’s eighth annual Humankind series focused on the theme, “Overcoming Loneliness: Togetherness, Connection, Community.”

“There is a great deal of research that shows how relationships with people that are much younger or older than us can lead to better health for all involved.” said Dr. John Moore, WSCC professor of psychology. “These relationships are also very important in addressing the high rates of loneliness experienced by all generations. Community members and those that work with either elderly or younger populations would benefit greatly from attending this event.”

Humankind is WSCC’s arts and culture lecture series that consists of presentations, workshops, film series, art exhibitions, performing arts events, and much more.
