Elaine Paul
Elaine Frances Paul (née Moran), 78, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, in Scottville. Born on June 22, 1946, in Detroit, Elaine spent much of her life in the Ludington and Scottville area, where she cherished Michigan’s natural beauty. She especially loved its beaches and state parks, often saying she couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
Elaine attended Mason County Central High School and was known for her warmth and kindness. She never met a stranger—only a friend she had yet to know. Her generosity extended to both people and animals; she had a deep love for her pets and would have rescued every stray if given the chance.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Paul; her daughter, Amanda Paul, and son-in-law Ross Higa; her sister Cathy Spore and family; her brother Ben Spore and family; as well as her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Russell, and her nephews John and Jason, as well as two infant family members.
Elaine was a talented crafter who enjoyed painting ceramics and cross-stitching. Her ceramic creations ranged from large statues to small figurines and banks, each made with care and often gifted to loved ones. She also had a passion for baking that began in childhood under the guidance of her grandmother. Christmas was especially meaningful to her as she spent hours making homemade candy tailored to each person’s favorite flavors.
An avid reader with a love for crime and thriller novels, Elaine shared this passion with her daughter through countless hours of reading together. In later years, she developed a love for gardening—tomatoes were her pride and joy, leading to a competition with her husband over whose side of the garden produced more.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington, at noon, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m.
Elaine’s warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.
