Janis Compeau

Janis Arlene Compeau of Ludington, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025. A beloved grandmother “Ahma”, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, she will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to spend time in her presence.

Janis graduated from Ludington High School in 1973 and went on to receive degrees in accounting and marketing/management. Often found on a warm sandy beach or taking a walk in the woods, she lived between Michigan, Wisconsin, and occasionally Florida. She retired early to take on the esteemed role of “Ahma” to her cherished granddaughter.

A legendary party starter and loyal Detroit Lions fan, Janis also loved to travel and try new recipes. She was always up for a road trip to the Upper Peninsula or a picnic at the state park with friends and family. Janis was selfless in her love of others, making those close to her feel special in her own generous, often humorous way. Never one to forget a birthday, she elevated any celebration with a thoughtful gift or well-curated prank. She enjoyed her daily walks, getting the most out of a nice day, tracking storms, and chances for spotting aurora. She was much like the sunsets she admired, bringing light into the lives of all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Janis this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society: donate.cancer.org

Arrangements were entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home of Ludington, www.OakGroveLudington.com.
