HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — The Mason County District Library will host a Remote Tech Help session on Tuesday, Feb. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Hamlin Township Hall, 3775 N. Jebavy Dr. Library staff will be on hand to answer technology questions and lend devices.
Mason County residents will also be able to sign up for library cards and borrow laptops, e-readers and hotspots.
“People are still finding out about these hotspots,” said Thomas Trahey, head of circulation at MCDL. “It’s like carrying a gateway to the internet in your pocket. Some people even find that it works better than their home internet.”
MCDL currently circulates 29 mobile hotspots.
The library has also been offering regular tech help sessions the Scottville Area Senior Center, the Ludington library and Longfellow Towers. During the sessions, the library staff will help people with technology questions including optimizing device settings, managing email inboxes and setting up new devices.
Funding for the Remote Tech Help Program is provided in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library of Michigan. The Digital Inclusion Grant funded the cost of running the tech help sessions and the purchase of new laptops, e-readers, and hotspots. The devices purchased with the grant and all circulating library materials are available to anybody with an MCDL library card.
Tuesday’s program is free.
