Bruce Michael Claveau, 76, of Ludington lost his brave battle to cancer on Friday, January 24, 2025. Bruce was born on September 9, 1948 in Ludington, the son of Butch and Ellie (Buckingham) Claveau, grew up in Scottville and graduated from Mason County Central High School with the class of 1966. Following his graduation he enlisted with the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, serving until May of 1970. After a one year enlistment with the US Navy Reserves, Bruce joined the United States Coast Guard where he spent the next 23 years serving his country and achieving the rank of senior chief boatswains mate. Bruce retired from the Coast Guard in 1996 and moved to Florida to be near his son Bruce and his family. Bruce later returned to Mason County and his hometown of Scottville to help care for his parents.
Bruce loved spending time with his family and friends. Many countless hours were spent working on cars, rebuilding motors and restoring the bodies to their glory. This was a passion he shared with his son.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Butch and Ellie; his infant son Jason; his paternal grandparents Frank and Alta Claveau, maternal grandparents Lloyd and Alma Buckingham, and many special aunts and uncles.
Bruce will be greatly missed by his son Bruce Claveau; his grandson Ethan; his sister Rise’ (Larry) McIntosh; his nephews Jordan (Samantha) McIntosh and Landon (Jessica) McIntosh; his six great-nieces Aryannna, Braylin, Zamorah, Ellie, Maci, and Quinn McIntosh.
Bruce was a kind and caring person that will be greatly missed by his family and many friends made over a lifetime of service.
A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held later this spring.
